I discovered printmaking in the summer of 2000 when I first joined Gareth Jones’ group in its old studio in Ufford. The summer term, as that was what it was, introduced me to etching in its most traditional form before I left to do a BA in Fine Art, which in turn led me on to a studio at Butley Mills Studios and sculptures in bronze. However, with the Group’s move from Ufford to Sudbourne, the opportunity of rejoining the print group arose and since 2005 I have been experimenting with the various print processes and indulging myself with ‘colour’.
‘Playing’, for me, has always been an important part of discovering how a process works and the consequence of this is that I have learnt not to be afraid of trying something new. Often the mistakes one makes leads on to new ways of working, as does the advice and help of fellow artists.
There is also, of course, the excitement of uncovering a piece of work just passed through the press - it is an experience that is often repeated and remains enthralling at each and every printing of an image.
